Make new memories on the Strand this summer
As summer arrives, we hope that the Russell Community is able to make new memories on The Strand in Kororāreka Russell! Our transformative placemaking project is now underway, creating vibrant spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy.
This initiative was shaped by the voices of our community through an extensive consultative process, and aims to enhance the waterfront experience, while preserving the unique character and heritage of our beloved town.
The recent installation of shared and pedestrian-only spaces means that our residents and manuhiri (visitors) are able to explore the new features along The Strand. Enjoy a safe stroll along the waterfront, play the chalk game by the Village Green, or sit and catch up with locals on the Old Man’s Seat outside Little Fresh without towbars and bumpers digging into your shins!
We encourage you to engage with these new installations and share your feedback. Your thoughts are vital in helping us assess the impact of these changes and guide future improvements. Feedback can be provided through an online consultation platform or via paper surveys which will be made available in a couple of locations around town.
As we welcome summer visitors to our beautiful town, let’s showcase the charm of Kororāreka Russell together. Whether you’re enjoying a leisurely walk, participating in community events, or simply soaking up the sun, your involvement will help create lasting memories for everyone.
Join us in celebrating this exciting chapter for The Strand—your feedback and participation are key to its success! Complete our online form to record your thoughts on how you feel it looks and works, or you can complete the contact form which the Council will record and respond as appropriate.
