It’s a wrap!

Our Placemaking Pop-up closed at 4.00 pm today with a total of 601 suggestions on the wall and on behalf of the Steering Committee and all our volunteers, we’d like to give our heartfelt thanks to everyone who came in and gave us their time and thoughts.

Over the 10 days we have had heaps of people coming in which has been really gratifying, loads of suggestions (the walls ended up covered with post-it notes), fascinating conversations and, no surprises, a lot of common themes that we all agree on. We’ve found that the way we express ourselves is often different, and what one person says another person visualises differently, but when we dig in a little bit more, when we’re prepared to sit and listen to varying views, it confirms what we all believe, that the Strand and our waterfront is a true taonga for our town and community, a unique place we want to protect.

We also want to give a huge thank you to all the volunteers who pitched in to help in the shop, your enthusiasm was amazing.  And a thank you to Ray White Realty for the space itself, the Far North District Council who supported us; designing and decorating the Pop-up space, printing out the document, posters, maps and displays, sending specific subject matter experts along to answer our questions. Cheers to Peter and Greg from Arcadia Lodge for sponsoring the delicious snacks. And a really big thank you to all our experts: Heather, Lindsay, Robert, Fiona, Elizabeth, Katie, Jenny, Robin Char and Jaye who gave their time to share their experience and their knowledge. It’s been awesome!

Thanks from the steering committee – left to right
